Using a different calendar to commemorate the passion and death of Jesus Christ, the Eastern Orthodox Church marks Good Friday on April 17, 2009, a week later than the Roman Catholics and Protestants.

Many pilgrims visit Jerusalem today to mark the somber day Jesus Christ was crucified. Black-robed Greek priests carried wooden crosses at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the site believed to be where Jesus was buried after His agonizing crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. The day is marked with prayers, mourning, fasting, and penance. (Photo Credit: AP/ Bernat Armangue) =0=
