Trying to recover from the effects of Typhoon Ondoy which killed 277 people and destroyed an estimated P5 billiion property, Philippines is bracing for another wicked weather.

Typhoon Peping, the 16th weather disturbance to visit the country has placed Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Quezon, Aurora, Sorsogon, Burias Island and Polillo Island in Luzon; and Northern Samar in the Visayas under typhoon signal number 1, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). The typhoon will bring heavy rains in the Bicol Region and Eastern Luson starting Thursday night.

”On Friday afternoon, the typhoon is expected to be 100 km northeast of Virac in Catanduanes, according to Pagasa's 5 p.m. weather bulletin. The latest bulletin said Pepeng was expected to make a landfall between the provinces of Aurora and Isabela on Saturday noon. By Saturday evening, it is expected to be at the vicinity of Mt. A national state of calamity was declared by Pres. Gloria M. Arroyo in anticipation for more destruction from the new typhoon. About 2,000 travellers in various ports in Southern Luzon were stranded due to the inclement weather. In Camarines Sur, Bicol, more than 3,000 people were evacuated to safety.

As this develops, another tropical depression is brewing outside the Philippine territory. Weather forecaster Mario Palafox said weather disturbance Melor is following Peping, but is unlikely to develop into a full blown typhoon to affect the Philippine territory. (Photo Credit: Mandysue797) =0=
