PostHeaderIcon Ferry sinking in Bangladesh brings 51 deaths



MV Coco, a passenger ferry with a capacity to carry 650 passengers capsized in Bangladesh on Friday, November 27, 2009 leaving at least 51 dead. The fatal accident occurred in Tetulia River near Nazirpur on Bhola Island, about 150 kilometers from the capital city of Dhaka. The overloaded boat with three decks and carrying 1,500 passengers keeled on its side, leaving panicked people to jump into the river.

Many of the dead were women and children. Authorities were seeking for more passengers who might have been trapped in the ill-fated ferry.. The accident coincided with Islamic holiday of Eid-al Adha. (Photo Credit: AP) =0=
