PostHeaderIcon 12 perish as boat to Puerto Galera capsizes



At least 12 persons drowned when a ferry boat on its way to the resort town of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro capsized. The boat MB Commando 6 sank when one its outriggers broke as it proceeded from Batangas City to Puerto Galera on a clear weather.

Those who died included 1 Hosotani Shoji, a Japanese tourist; Franco P. Eugenio, 3, Anton Cruz Eugenio, 2, both residents of White Plains, Quezon City; Gregonia C. Pablico, 58, and Albino Pablico, 55, of Sta. Cruz Manila; Beta Berdin, 2, and Melanie Berdin, 30, of Sta. Mesa, Manila; Desiree Teodoro, 20, of Taytay, Rizal; Joena Perez, 25, of Batangas; Mina Ricci Cads, of Binangonan, Rizal; Daisy Eugenio, of Quezon City, and a certain yaya Tess.---Manila Bulletin (05/23/09, Recuenco, A; Evora, R, Cahinhinan, J)

According to Luisito Palmera, the police regional director of the area said at least 48 passengers were rescued, but it wasn’t clear how many more were missing. Many of the survivors who bore physical injuries were treated at the Puerto Galera Municipal Health Office. It is said that there were 60 passengers in the ferry before the fatal incident occured.
