In Memoriam
1926-2009

Nanay Paje, 83-years old died peacefully today, in the early morning of November 10, 2009 in Culpeper, Virginia, USA after a brief illness.

Originally from Pamplona, Camarines Sur, Nanay, a respected and distinctively affable retired mentor, was the loving mom to Ibalonian Dr. Yasmin Paje-Banzon of British Columbia, Canada, Errol Paje of Culpeper, Virginia, USA and Dr. Leida Paje of California, USA.

PostHeaderIcon INC spiritual leader Ka Erdy laid to rest

On Monday, September7, 2009, Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) executive minister Erano “Erdy” Manalo who died last week of cardiopulmonary arrest was buried in the central temple of the religious organization in Quezon City.

Thousands of INC members flocked for the viewing and watched the last rites under rainy skies. The religious group counts an estimated 2 to 8 million members which is part of a political force during elections. Many prominent politicians including Pres. Gloria M. Arroyo paid their last respects and attended the funeral.

Ka Erdy was temporarily buried at the center of a huge hall while on wait for his final resting place being readied beside his father and INC founder, Felix Manalo. Many mourners were moved tears as they mourn for the kind 84 year old spiritual leader whom they love and respect.(Photo Credit: Alexanderdh) =0=

1 July 1961 - 31 August 1997

“…that girl given the name of the ancient goddess of hunting was, in the end, the most hunted person of the modern age.”


In the early morning of August 31, 1997, Princss Diana died of injuries sustained in a horrible car crash in Paris as reporters hounded her. The memory of her short life receded in time, but one could recall that on September 6, 1997, her brother Earl Charles Spencer delivered a breath-taking tribute to the world’s Queen of Hearts--- that was during her interment, 12 years ago. At Westminster Abbey where the tombs of England’s monarchs rested, the irreplaceable Diana was eulogized that stirred the feelings of those present and the millions who watched in anguish in TV.

Tony Blair called her the people's princess. For her philantrophic works on landmines and babies wih AIDS, Daily Express referred to her as an "international angel of mercy." Part of Spencer's eulogy to the lady with a "sparkle in those unforgettable eyes" beautifully reads:

“Today is our chance to say thank you for the way you brightened our lives, even though God granted you but half a life.

We will feel cheated always that you were taken from us so young and yet we must learn to be grateful that you came along at all. Only now that you are gone do we truly appreciate what we are now without and we want you to know that life without you is very, very difficult.

We have all despaired at our loss over the past week and only the strength of the message you gave us through your years of giving has afforded us the strength to move forward.

There is temptation to rush to canonize your memory. There is no need to do so. You stand tall enough as a human being of unique qualities not to need to be seen as a saint. Indeed, to sanctify your memory would be to miss out on the very core of your being, your wonderfully mischievous sense of humor with the laugh that bent you double, your joy for life transmitted wherever you took smile, and the sparkle in those unforgettable eyes, your boundless energy which you could barely contain.

But your greatest gift was your intuition and it was a gift you used wisely. This is what underpinned all your wonderful attributes. And if we look to analyze what it was about you that had such a wide appeal we find it in your institinctive feel for what was really important in all our time.” =0=

UP Ibalon Bicol, AdenUHS'73, and friends express their sympathy and prayers for Aquilino (Jun) Lamit who passed away on August 5, 2009. They extend their condolence to his bereaved family.

A member of Ateneo de Naga University High School class 1963 and College 1968, Aquilino served as the school’s college registrar. He was a loving brother to Mateo, Cecilia, Boy, and Amelia. His remains lie at the Funeraria Imperial in Igualdad, Naga City, Philippines. Interment was scheduled in Santo Nino Cemetery of Naga on Sunday, August 9, 2009. (Photo Credit: Tinkerbell54)

If we can have only a fraction of hope and gratitude the world can share, the place we live in will be far better and more secure than what is now. After more than a year of fighting advanced colonic malignancy, Pres. Corazon C. Aquino, 76 died in peace in Manila early Saturday, August 2, 2009. The passing of the widow of martyred political leader Ninoy Aquino brought loss and sadness to the Filipino nation. In her life, she exemplified calm, grace, and strong conviction.

Prayers were being said when the former president had her last breath. In her hospital bed at the Makati Medical Medical Center, she was surrounded by her five children and friends.

A proponent of non-violence and peaceful change, Cory, a devout Catholic, was the inspiration which led the country to oust strongman Ferdinand E. Marcos in a popular People Power uprising in 1986, leading to her assumption of presidency.

During her term, her administration was rocked by 7 attempts of coup d’ etat as she tried to rid the country of the remnants of the Marcos dictatorship. Restoring democracy, she embarked on the implementation of land reform, but was accused of protecting the interest of rich land-owners. At the same time she offered to make peace with the communists while she tried to find solution to the separatist movement of Mindanao. After her presidency, she continued to work for social and political causes.

Cory, the feisty US-educated lady who wore her usual signature yellow dress, demonstrated a life of understated simplicity, working for the country’s unity till the end of her life.

In her illness, friends and foes, rich and poor alike offered prayers for her recovery, including expressions of consolation from Pope Benedict XVI. (Photo Credit: walla2chick) =0=
