As the Los Angeles County Health authorities announced of a sex worker having contracted HIV in the last five years, they say 16 more porn stars had been infected by the dreaded virus.

Public Health Officials said the 16 cases of HIV/AIDS were not investigated and unpublicized because of privacy rules enforced before 2006 which prohibited the disclosure of names to government agencies. It was unclear whether all of them got their illness at work.

“No state laws specifically require condom use and the vast majority of heterosexual porn movies are shot "bareback," an industry term for unprotected sex.

State labor codes, however, do require use of personal protective equipment and protection against blood or bodily fluids in the workplace. Since 2004, five adult entertainment companies have been cited for a variety of violations. Each case has been settled, state officials said.

Since 2004, 2,378 people who identified themselves as adult film industry performers have tested positive for chlamydia in Los Angeles County. An additional 1,357 tested positive for gonorrhea and 15 for syphilis, according to data released Thursday by the county's health department.” Los Angeles Times (06/12/09, Kimi Yoshino and Rong-Gong Lin II

Since the San Fernando Valley is a leading pornography capital which has an annual income of $12 billion dollars, employs more than 1,200 sex performers under at least 200 productions. For those who follow the Kho-Halili sex video scandal, the senate investigation for the purpose of “legislation” brings more questions than answers. Instead of truth coming out from Dr. Hayden Kho and starlet Katrina Halili, their testimonies are confusing----one couldn’t be sure where truth and lies start and end. Stable minds are wondering why such a vulgar erotic affair has become a circus in the senate distracting the public from more important issues.

It’s embarrassing that the entire nation is dragged into the salaciousness of sex that comes from an immature cosmetic surgeon and a budding young actress. In a fit of anger, a man doused water on the surgeon during the probe. Everybody becomes the guardian of morals as the perplexing details of private lives are revealed.

The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) takes interest in finding the truth about Dr. Hayden Kho and another girl-lover, Dr. Vicky Belo---that sensational lady-doctor who specializes on bringing celebrities, medical science, and the aesthetics of the human body together.

But on the side, one can’t ignore a poor man's dirty video business which comes along with the scandal. Illegal copies of the skin flicks of Kho and Halili are peddled like hotcakes coincident to their televised infamy. Even the old sex movies of faded actors and actresses in Philippine cinema have stirred renewed interest. Once again pornographic films have a come back in the Manila and in the provinces.

The senate must do its job well. This kind of investigation has the potential to excite the sexual fantasies of the entire nation without safeguarding the morals of the people. The 33-year old disabled Nadya Suleman who caused a flurry of controversies for giving birth to 8 premature babies via in-vitro fertilization (IVF) in addition to 6 other children is now being offered to make a living.

Vivid Entertainment has asked the jobless mom to appear in a pornographic movie for $1 million plus a year of insurance for herself and her 14 children. The film company is waiting for the decision.

The emotionally unstable single mother with history of depression has been on social welfare. In danger of being evicted from a foreclosed 3-bedroom home with her bankrupt parents in California, Suleman has made several TV interviews including a recent appearance with feel-good psychology guru Dr. Phil McGraw. She complains that if she has no means of supporting her newborns, the hospital may opt to leave her out from custody of the children.

The debates for or against Nadya Suleman haven't died down. In this complicated world, the birth of octuplets to a financially cash-strapped woman can be exploited way beyond the confines of propriety and moral values.

Just a month after her delivery, she has this skin flick offer. The exploitation is evident from the time her fertility doctor implanted the eight embryos against known standards of ethical and scientific medical judgement. This upsetting life story is an offshoot of the liberalism in United States where the pursuit of individualism has blurred the choice between right and wrong. UPDATE: After Nadya Suleman got the porno film offer, a competing movie/video outfit which peddles smut asks the octomom to reject the $1 million sex movie in favor of a year of diapers that it promises to give away for her children.
