An elementary grader and two high school students of Naga City won bronze medals from the recently concluded international China Math Olympiad hosted by the People’s Republic of China.

In a rigorous mathematics competition held in Ziamen and Tianjin last August 11 to 16, 2009, high school students John Reiner Bulaong of Ateneo de Naga University, Brian James Masalunga of Hope Christian School, and 6th grader Joseph Maria de Leon bagged the medals among a total of 90 garnered by the Philippine team.

Bulaong is the son of UP Ibalonian Melissa Sieglinde Borromeo-Bulaong and Joseph Rommel O. Bulaong. A triumphant welcome awawaits the winners when they return home. Congratulations!!! (Photo Credit: tthanes) =0=

John Reinier Borromeo Bulaong, a sophomore at the Ateneo de Naga University High School will represent the Philippines in an international math quiz contest in Ontario. Emerging among the top examinees in a field of more than 70,000 students, John, the son of Ibalonian Melissa Sieglinde Borromeo-Bulaong and Joseph Rommel O. Bulaong, will be in the Canadian Mathematics Competition organized by the University of Waterloo, Canada. The date and place of the competition are yet to be announced.



Keeping in touch and renewing friendship are UERM classmates Mi-Ann Nitorreda, M.D., Ma. Rhodora Tolentino, M.D. and Augusto F. Mesia, M.D. in Flushing, New York on Saturday, May 16, 2009. With them is Marietta F. Mesia, D.M.D.

UP Ibalon-Bicol sends its congratulations to Mahalia Serra-Gotico of Naga City who will graduate on May 24, 2009 in San Diego State University in California with a masteral degree in rehabilitative counseling. Mahal, the daughter of Dondon and Tet Serra finished her baccalaureate degree in the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, Quezon City.



Sam, the cuddly white poodle of GooseCreek, SC celebrated his 12th happy birthday on May 10, 2009. Because of age, the elderly loyal furry angel has lost his ability to see and hear, yet he still wags his tail in earnest when his loved ones are near. =0=

UPCAT--the Movie at Universidad de Sta Isabel

Through the sponsorship of the Camarines Sur UP Alumni Association, a movie on UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) was shown at the Universidad de Sta Isabel on Saturday, February 28, 2009.









UP Ibalon-Bicol expresses its sincere gratitude to the civic-minded Ibalonian-members of Naga City and the UP Alumni of Camarines Sur who were present to lend a helping hand. Ibalonians Sieg Borromeo-Bulaong, Alaine Fornoles, Jun Olin, Totoy Badiola, Ann Mariano, and others gave their hearts, valuable time, and effort to make the event successful.

Health Screening, Barangay Workshop & Operation Blessing

UP Ibalon Bicol president Jose (Butch) Robredo announces the Health Screening and Barangay Workshop to be held on April 2 to May 2, 2009 in Naga City. Ibalonian Josephine (Penny) R. Bundoc, M.D. of UP-PGH Department of Rehabilitation Medicine will spearhead the scoliosis, vision screening, and the 2nd phase of the Operation Blessing (OB.)
