PostHeaderIcon Actor Johnny Delgado dies of lymphoma



Philippine veteran TV and movie actor Johnny Delgado succumb to malignant lymphoma, a form of lymph node cancer on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the age of 61. Two days before his death, he was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital suffering from complications of the disease and chemotherapy.

The entertainment celebrity was popular in his many film and TV appearances which spanned for four decades. In the 1980’s he was a regular actor in “Goin’ Bananas.” He played a role in “Tanging Yaman,” a drama which gained him a FAMAS Award as the 2000 best actor. Johnny was the husband of Laurice Guillen and father of Ben Feleo---both film-makers by profession.

PostHeaderIcon Burt Reynolds treated for drug problem



Hollywood actor Burt Reynolds, 73, was treated for painkiller addiction and was released from a drug rehabilitation center recently, said his manager. His drug problem arose after undergoing back surgery. According to Reynolds, he had a share of the ups and downs of being a movie star.

“In the 1980s, Reynold's career was nearly destroyed when an injury and prescription drug abuse led to false rumors that he was infected with the AIDS virus.. He hurt his jaw making the 1984 comedy "City Heat" with Clint Eastwood. Barely able to eat, he lost 50 pounds (23 kilograms) and looked ill and emaciated.

For two years I couldn't get a job," Reynolds told The Associated Press in 1990. "I had to take five physicals to get a job. I had to take the pictures that were offered to me. I did action pictures because I was trying to prove that I was well." ----Philstar (09/17/09)

PostHeaderIcon Actor Patrick Swayze dies of pancreatic cancer



Barely two years after he was diagnosed to have pancreatic malignancy, Patrick Swayze, 57 died peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2009 in the presence of his immediate family. The actor known for his role as Johnny Castle in “Dirty Dancing” bravely battled the disease with grace and optimism, opting to work while being treated for a lethal form of cancer. His films include ‘The Outsiders,” “Red Dawn,”"Ghost," “Young Blood,”“Road House,”"To Wong Foo, and Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar" among others.

“He had kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting "The Beast," an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot. It drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran in 2009, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.” --- AP (09/14/09, Lemire, Christy)

A nature lover and conservationist, Swayze who was born in Houston, Texas was survived by his wife Lisa Niemi, a fellow dancer whom he married in 1975. He used to be accompanied by Niemi during his treatments from Los Angeles, Northern California to Stanford University Medical Center. PostHeaderIcon Actor David Carradine, 72, found dead



Seventy two year-old David Carradine who played an austere character in a Kung Fu TV series in the 1970’s and appeared in more than 100 films including a Quentin Tarantino movie entitled “Kill Bill” died unexpectedly in his room at Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday, June 3, 2009.

“Carradine, 72, was found dead Thursday in his luxury hotel room in Thailand, where he had just begun filming a movie. Police said Carradine was found hanged in the closet. It was unclear whether the death was an accident or suicide.”----AP (06/04/09 German, D)

A member of a family of distinguished movie thespians, Carradine who was reported to have problems with alcohol and narcotics openly discussed his suicidal thoughts in the past. He was survived by Annie Bierman and their three children. An autopsy was to be performed to try to determine the cause of the actor’s death. =0=

UPDATE: June 8, 2009 Initial investigation on Carradine's death opened the possibility of accidental demise as examination of the death scene revealed ropes and ligatures on the victim's genitals. Sexual activity in the hotel room which had gone awry might have caused his death.
