PostHeaderIcon UP Ibalon trivia: the mystery guy in the BNAA convention

Now that the Bicol National Associaton of America (BNAA) Convention has been concluded in the Northeast, it can be said that an Ibalonian attended the affair from far away Houston, Texas. In the picnic last Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Freedom Park, New Jersey following the gala dinner, a guy in blue with a friendly smile, loud laugh, and scintillating demeanor came along.

I heard someone mentioned his name. I almost couldn't believe it. As if I was hearing somebody from yesterday right under the shadow of the statue of Lady Liberty.

I had to be sure and so I asked. True enough, it was him, our Ibalon pal---found after more than 30 years! Who could he be? What might be your guess? =0=

Answer: Stephen (Steve/Tibo) David, originally from Legazpi City who was part of the core-group that established the UP Ibalon in Diliman, Quezon City. Steve spent time with the Department of Foreign Affairs and serve as a consular official in USA before assuming the presidency of the Filipino American Caucus for Empowerment. He is currently based in Texas.

As many charitable people have done through the ages, giving one’s time to assist the poor is one of the best ways to help the community. That’s what US First Lady Michele Obama did on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Miriam’s Kitchen in Washington, DC when she served food for the homeless.

While the economic crisis deepens, people need encouragement to assist those who’re in need---just like what this privately-funded charity has been doing for the more than 2 decades. (Photo Credit: AFP/ Tim Sloan) =0=

PostHeaderIcon Social Networking's First: ZenZuu Pays You to Sign-up Your Friends

The Beta stage is over (almost) and it's here. It's not only free membership that you get. Upstart social network, ZenZuu, pays you to sign-up your friends and it also shares 80% of its advertising revenue with its members.

Scour the Internet and you will find only one social network that pays its members to get sign-ups. ZenZuu promises to be a next generation social networking platform and calls others ancient. Just like in MySpace, FaceBook, Friendster, LinkedIn and others, your also create your own profile and get exposure for your website and business. The difference is that ZenZuu pays you for signing up your friends, who automatically become your downlines. This may conjure pyramidal marketing schemes with variable successes (or failures) in the past. But here you do not lose money. The idea is to make money while you make friends, going by ZenZuu's motto: Make Friends. Make Money. Make Sense.

As additional flavor, ZenZuu even offers to share 80% of its advertising revenue with its members. If you suspect that the big social networks produce tons of money for their stockholders, you are partly right. Front-runner MySpace has 270M members and still growing, producing millions of dollars in monthly revenue. Facebook is far second with 60M but is expected to have 200M by the end of this year. Facebook's founder, another Harvard dropout, recently sold a small part of the company for 240M. He is now worth $3B on paper. ZenZuu's owner is worth a little over $100M, but in his drive to join the rank of the billionaires he likes ZenZuu's members to be happy as well. We will be watching how far this rather aggressive marketing innovation goes. ZenZuu.com's Google PageRank and Alexa ranking are shooting up meteorically, even while in Beta testing. These are the website indicators that advertisers watch before they spend millions just to showcase their products and services. We expect ZenZuu to launch with a bang in a few weeks.

Sounds like ZenZuu has raised the bar in social network competition. If others follow its example, social networkers will be elated. I would not mind receiving regular paychecks from MySpace and Facebook and Friendster, all of which I am a member. Would you?

Meantime, why not be among the firsts to sign up for ZenZuu? Click here.
