Legazpi City- The City of Legazpi promised a more colorful and exciting Ibalong Festival 2008 highlighted by the Mutya ng Ibalong Beauty pageant and the Street Presentation on October 29 and 30 respectively. The search for the Mutya ng Ibalong will be chaired by Mrs. Geraldine Rosal with the able assistance of famed couturier Rene Salud and will showcase the beauty and talent of the Legazpena. The Street Presentation promises to be a colorful and lively spectacle that will start at Penaranda Park and end at Pacific Mall grounds by way of Rizal Street and the Legazpi Centro.

The Ibalong Festival was revived this year following its’ shelving the past two years due to the devastation wrought by successive super typhoons that hit Legazpi City and the Bicol region. The festival proper will be from October 25-31 according to Mr. Alan O. Ranola, this year’s Festival Chairman of the Execom but he added that there will be other side activities from October 1-24 that will feature entertainment shows, educational, cultural, sports and religious activities and the Legazpi Port Fiesta. The festivities took off with a motorcade along the city streets last October 1, 2008.

Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal in his statement during the soft-opening thanked all the stakeholders especially the private and business sector who shouldered most of the expenses of the different activities of the festival. “A concerted effort will make Ibalong Festival a resounding success,” he concluded.
